Doi Inthanon: One Day in Thailand on a Harley Davidson

Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand at 2565 meters. The forest surrounding Doi Inthanon are preserved as one of the original fourteen national parks of Thailand. The mountain is often shrouded in mist making doin Inthanon a lush cool ride.

A short stop on the way up Doi Inthanon, Thialands highest mountain
Doi Inthanon is probably most famous for it's abundant avian population. Listed as having over 385 bird species resident it is a bird watchers paradise. The road to the summit of Doi Inthanon is broad, well surfaces with sweeping curves and plenty of shoulder for stopping to enjoy the view.

Hmong, Karen (or Karieng) tribes folk live here. They raise vegetables not commonly associated with tropical climes. Cherries, peaches and coffee are among some of the crops raised here. There is a market part way up where fruits and vegetables are sold.

We'll stop and relax near some of the most photogenic waterfalls in Thailand on the way up. At the summit, you can visit the shrine containing King Inthawichayanon's ashes. One of the last kings of Chiang Mai, Inthawichayanon ordered his remains to be placed on Doi Luang, which was then renamed Doi Inthanon in his honor.

Coming down the mountain we'll turn right and head down through the Mae Chaem Valley. The Mae Chaem Valley is not usually a tourist destination. You'll be riding through rural Thailand where few foreigners go. We'll stop for a snack and a break along the river, maybe find a roadside market, before heading back through Hod and on to Chiang Mai.
Riding trough Palm-lined rice fields. You'll be tempted to stop for a photograph at almost every turn.
