Motorcycle Tour of North and North East Thailand
This tour offers an excellent example of some of Thailand's best motorcycling roads. Broad, modern highways and well surfaced hill country roads offer stunning views of rural Thailand.
Bikes parked at the hotel on the first night. This Hotel features luxurious rooms in a Sukothai style teak home, with a pool and a Buffet Breakfast.
The first day's ride is relatively short. This is an excellent ride on roads with sparse traffic and dense forest cover. This short ride (300km) is perfect for a first day riding in Thailand and leaves time to explore one of the most historically significant provincial centers in Thailand.
Sukhothai ruins are a world heritage site and a must see.
After checking into the hotel and freshening up, it's a short ride to the park. The Sukhothai kingdom prospered in the 13th & 14th centuries. Many Thai historians consider the foundation of the Sukhothai kingdom as the beginning of the Thai nation. The Historical park contains the ruins of the capitol of the Sukhothai kingdom.
We can ride through the park or take the open air bus.
The next leg of our motorcycle tour will take us through breathtaking natural beauty over the smooth, well-maintained highway 12 with just the right amount of curves and straights. Kornkaen is the first large city on this leg and a great place to stop for a bit of lunch by the lake or in town. Before the tour leaves Chiang Mai we will have discussed the options on this leg.
We stop in Korn Kaen for a bit then head north to Udon Thani. Udon was home to one fo the US Air bases during the Vietnam era and has many western friendly businesses and eateries. Udon is graced with a vibrant night life and there are a quite a few watering holes that you might find fun.
The third day takes us west on highway 211, following the mekong river for more than 100km. The mekong river is the most significant river in South East Asia and provides stunning views on our way to Chiang Khan, before we head south to Loei for the night.
Our final days ride, puts us on quite country highways that roll through the hills and occasional villages before picking up highway 11. This often serpentine highway takes us to Lampang where we take a free flowing concrete highway over the hills to Chiang Mai.
This tour covers more ground per day than any other. The ride and destinations are the reward on a tour that reminds us why we love to ride.
